Pharmacogenetic Study of Clopidogrel

The main goal of this research was to establish an easy, swift and inexpensive multiplex PCR-based detection method for four SNPs- CYP2C19*2, CYP2C19*3, CYP2C19*4 and CYP2C19*17 in the human genome. The assay method was able to classify an individual as Poor (PM)/ Intermediate (IM)/ Extensive (EM)/ Ultra Rapid Metabolizer (UM) of Clopidogrel, an anti-platelet drug prescribed to prevent internal blood clot.


This project also determined the frequency of these four alleles in Bangladeshi population using 150 volunteers.


This project work includes:

• collection of buccal swabs from donors and extraction of DNA via Chelex method

• in silico designing of allele specific primers targeting four SNPs in the human CYP2C19 gene

• Multiplex PCR and Agarose Gel Electrophoresis
