Forensic Analysis of Siblings

Updated On Jan 18, 2016

Our study aimed at establishing an alternative method for the analysis of opposite-sex siblings involving X-STR linkage groups. We performed a case-control study involving 27 pairs of siblings and 110 pairs of unrelated individuals to determine the threshold number of Linkage Groups that has to be shared by a man and a woman to be siblings.

This study comprised of:

  •  human DNA fingerprinting using ABI Prism 3500 Genetic Analyser
  •  statistical validation of the goodness of Linkage Group by an ROC curve analysis
  •  a new “Two-Tier Method” to increase the specificity of sibling test
